A REPORT BY SECRETARY OF IASSTD & AIDS20th November 2011
Dear members,
Greetings from IASSTD & AIDS

First of all I convey my sincere thanks to all the members for electing me as the secretary for the year 2011-2012. I assure you that I will do my best for the association. My heartfelt thanks to all the members who attended the 35th National conference of IASSTD & AIDS and 12th International Congress of IUSTI at New Delhi from 2nd to 5th November 2011 and for their active participation.

We must congratulate Dr.V.K. Sharma, Organising Chairman, Dr. Somesh Gupta, Organising Secretary and their team for organizing the conference in the National capital. The team deserves all praise and credit for the excellent manner in which the conference was conducted. The selection of venue Vigyan Bhavan was greatly appreciated. The security at the venue was perfect. Transport and accommodation were well planned.

On the first day of the conference 2nd November 2011 the IASSTD & AIDS session was conducted in Hall 6 at Vigyan Bhavan from 9 am to 4pm.

To begin with Dr. Sardarilal Memorial Award paper was presented by Dr. Shilpee Choudry on "Characterisation of patients with multiple STI : A hospital based survey" Co authors are Dr.V.G. Ramachandran, Dr. ShuklaDas and Dr.S.N. Bhattacharya and it was published in IJSTD & AIDS journal 2010;31:87-91 The session was chaired by Dr.A.K. Jaiswal and Dr.K. Venkateswaran.

The Dr.R.V. Rajam Endowment Oration was delivered by Dr. Chavalit Mangkalaviraj, from Bangkok, Thailand on "How Thailand cut the incidence in the era of HIV / AIDS" The session was chaired by Dr.G. Chandrasekara Rao and Dr.B. Loganathan.

Silver Jubilee Oration of the Institute of Venereology was delivered by Dr.T.L.N. Prasad, Technical Expert , NACO on "Evidence based Program Management , National STI/RTI control and Prevention Program – A case study" chaired by Dr.V. Sudha and Dr.C. Mahalingam

After tea break Dr.M.A. Wali oration was delivered by Dr. Yogesh Sashikant Marfatia, Chief Editor IJSTD & AIDS on "Adolescent HIV / AIDS – Issues and Challenges" chaired by Dr.P. Elangovan and Dr.B. Udayakumar.

Dr.P.S. Renganathan Memorial Award Competition was chaired by Dr. Dinesh C Govil and Dr.T. Rammanohar Rao. Six papers were presented. Judges were Dr.A.K. Jaiswal, Dr. Rathindra Nath Dutta and Dr. Vishnu Mendiratta.

In the post lunch session Dr.V. Govindan Nair memorial Award competition was chaired by Dr.Lt.Col. Nitin S Walia and Dr.K. Mahadevan. Seven papers were presented. Judges were Dr. Jayadev Betkerner, Dr. Karjigi Siddalingappa and Dr. Ajit kumar

Guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Veerapol Chandeying from Thailand on "Sexual Health Promotion : Thailand Perspective" and it was chaired by Dr.V.K. Jain and Dr.A.D. Dharmaratnam.

The first edition of Dr.H.C. Mohanty quiz competition was conducted by Dr.P. Elangovan as quiz master and Dr.T. Rammanohar Rao as scorer. My thanks to Dr.N. Usman and Dr.V.S. Dorairaj for their help in the preparation of questions for the quiz. Dr.H.C. Mohanty distributed cash prize to the winners. The presence of Dr. Bhanu Verma, first member of our association will be motivating the youngsters to attend conferences regularly.

IASSTD & AIDS sessions came to an end with vote of thanks by Dr.P. Elangovan

The inaugural session was held in the evening. Guest of honour was Dr. Aradhana Johari, IAS, Additional Secretary, NACO. Our association President Dr.V.S. Dorairaj, spoke about the activities of IASSTD & AIDS. He appealed to the authorities that the office bearers of IASSTD & AIDS should be invited by the Union ministry of Health & Family Welfare to take part in all discussions of policy matters related to the specialty of STD & AIDS

On 3-11-2011 IASSTD & AIDS Executive committee meeting was held in the evening followed by General Body meeting . The report of the meeting is attached here with. Dr.Dinesh Govil took over charges as president of IASSTD & AIDS from Dr.V.S. Dorairaj. Certificates and medals for the prize winning delegates were given by Dr.V.S. Dorairaj and Dr. Dinesh Govil . Following are the prize winners.

I Prize - Dr. Smiriti Naswa
— HIV Testing - A late phenomenon.

II Prize - Dr.M.P .Anupama
— An interesting case of Ocular Syphilis presenting as Unilateral chorioretinitis.

III Prize - Dr.R. Ramachandran
— A study on male homosexual behaviour.

Dr.P.S. Ranganathan Memorial Award Competition

I Prize - Dr. Thilakavathi Natesan
— Diagnosis of syphilis with new rapid specific test.

II Prize - Dr.K. Gopalakrishnan
— A study on incidence of various etiologies of Balanoposthitis in a tertiary care hospital in Chennai.

III Prize - Dr.G. Rajeshkumar
— Co-infection of syphilis and gonorrhoea in a homosexual male a rare case report.

Dr.H.C. Mohanty Quiz Competition

I Prize - Dr.G. Rajeshkumar and Dr.S. Sasirekha

II Prize - Dr.V. Balamurugan and Dr.M.P. Anupama

III Prize - Dr.K. Gopalakrishnan and Dr.S. Nithya Priyadarshini

The world congress was conducted under the auspices of IUSTI, IASSTD & AIDS, AIIMS, National Institute of Health, USA, WHO, Dept. of Health Research, NACO and Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India, ICMR, Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt of India Eye catching Cultural Programmes were arranged at Siri Fort Auditorium on 2-11-2011 and at Kingdom of Dreams on 4-11-2011 Faculty dinner was held on 3-11-2011. Four days of presentations and discussions came to an end with key note address by King K Holmes
