In order to improve the academic standards of specialists
dealing with sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and
for proper management of patients with STDS, and also
to give distinct identity for this specialty, the need
for a separate Association was felt. A band of Venereologists
and Scientists met at the Institute of Venereology,
Madras Medical College, Madras and formed an Association
called the INDIAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF SEXUALLY
TRANSMITTED DISEASES (IASSTD), in the year 1975.
Once the Association was established it was felt that
it should have a forum to voice the academic pursuits
of this speciality and also to disseminate information
on this subject Nationally and Internationally to all
those who are interested in this speciality. Thus the
idea of having a Journal was conceived in 1977 but materialized
only in 1980. Thus was born the IJSTD through the enthusiastic
and sincere efforts of Dr.Sardarilal, Editor and the
members of Editorial board. After the demise of Dr.Sardarilal,
Dr.R.C.Sharma, New Delhi was Editor for a short period
and later Dr.Rishi K Bhargava of Jaipur was nominated
as the Editor. He is presently the Chief Editor of IJSTD.
The standard of Journal has improved immensely after
Dr.Rishi k Bhargava has taken over. His vision of indexing
the IJSTD journal has materialized with his sincere
and honest efforts vide– (ISSN) 0253-7184.
The Journal is published half yearly i.e. one volume
per one year consisting of two issues (June and December).
It is an indexed Journal and circulated free to all
the members of the Association. For Non Members Annual
subscription is Rs.150/- inclusive of postage by ordinary
book-post for subscriber in India. For foreign subscribers,
the subscription is US $ 10. AS on today more than 50
Institutions in India and abroad are subscribers of
our Journal.

The author of the best article, published in the Journal
every year is the beneficiary of “Dr.Sardarilal
Memorial Award”. The author is requested to present
his award winning article at the National Conference
and soon after he is decorated with the award.
